Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce

Download an information sheet

A one year full-time course, or part-time course over more than one year, structured to meet the student's needs. The regulations require 144 points in Management.

This one-year course of study is similar to the Honours fourth year. Students who have not previously been eligible for Honours but who are now achieving a B+ average, may opt for this qualification.

Entry requirements

Entry to the PGDipCom requires at least a B+ average in 72 points at MANT 300-level.

Students are required to enrol in:

  • 72 points from MANT425, 426,429-432, 435-438, 445, 446, plus
  • 72 points of MANT365 or further MANT 400-level papers (including MANT480). Please note that MANT365 and MANT480 are not prerequisites - the student decides which other papers they take.

Grades

The award of final marks is by a committee of fourth year examiners. Any grades suggested by the teacher or supervisor are subject to change - both up and down. This process looks across an individual's record and also across the average marks for particular papers. There is always a second examiner for dissertations and projects. Ten percent of dissertations and projects will be subject to moderation for the purposes of quality control, after the event (marks will not be affected).

The Diploma may be awarded with distinction (average A- (80%) or above) or with credit (average 73% and above). Further information is available on the main University website.

See a list of recent PGDipCom dissertations.

Meetings

There will be an initial meeting of all 4th year BCom(Hons) and MBus students at 3.30 pm on March 2, 2012 in the Divisional Boardroom (CO419/420).

A regular 'class time' will be negotiated for this group of students to meet thereafter. The purpose of forming such a class is to provide a support network; and an infrastructure for ensuring that research topics are carefully chosen and meet the specified requirements.
