In July 2007, Brendan Gray was appointed to the Dunedin City Council (DCC) Chair in Entrepreneurship. This partnership between the University and the DCC is designed to encourage a culture of entrepreneurship throughout the School, other University departments and the region's business community. In addition, he has carried out research into export promotion, international distribution, and advertising and PR effectiveness. His main teaching area is marketing strategy.

Before becoming a Marketing academic, Brendan worked as a journalist and public relations consultant.
