Call for papers
The Department of Economics at the University of Otago
will host the 2nd Otago Workshop in International Trade on March
30 and 31, 2007. Keynote speakers will be
Peter Neary
University of Oxford, and
Alan Woodland
University of Sydney.
The workshop is intended to bring together a small
group of trade economists, and consequently there will only be plenary
sessions. The first day of the workshop will be held in the Council
Chamber of the Clocktower Building which is one of Otago's landmarks.
The 1st Otago Workshop in International Trade took place in March
2006 and brought together trade economists from Europe, USA, Australia,
Asia and New Zealand (see http://www.business.otago.ac.nz/econ/workshop_prog.html
for details).
We invite colleagues in this field (JEL-Classifications
F0 to F2) to submit their papers for presentation at the workshop.
If you are interested, please send your abstract or preferably your
completed paper (in pdf-format only, please) to tradeworkshop@business.otago.ac.nz
before October 31, 2006. Authors of accepted papers will be notified
by November 30, 2006. Conference participants are expected to serve
as discussants at the workshop. There is no registration fee. Please
note that we cannot offer any financial assistance to participants.
The conference dinner (optional) will be held on
Saturday, 31 March, at a downtown restaurant in Dunedin. The cost
for this event is NZ$ 70 (approx. € 35) per person. Partners
are welcome to attend. Upon acceptance, you will be asked to book
your accommodation independently. We have blocked a number of rooms
at the University
of Otago Executive Residence and other hotels which are very
close to the campus.
The University of Otago is located in Dunedin
on the South Island of New Zealand. Dunedin is best reached by airplane,
with direct connections from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch
and (on certain days) Sydney. The end of March is late summer in
New Zealand which is usually a very settled and fine weather period
in this area. Dunedin is famous for its university and the Otago
Peninsula which hosts an albatross colony and is the only place
in the world where you can see yellow-eyed penguins. Queenstown,
Fiordland, including the world famous Milford
Sound, and the lakes and vineyards of Central Otago are reachable
within a few hours drive.
If you have any further questions about the workshop,
please contact one of the local organizers Frank Stähler (fstaehler@business.otago.ac.nz)
or Niven Winchester (nwinchester@business.otago.ac.nz).
