Viktoria Kahui (nee Schneider)
BSc
(Hons), MSc, PhD (Otago)
Viktoria’s main interest lies in the field of natural resource
economics and fishery economics in particular. In her PhD she applied
an empirical bioeconomic model to the paua fishery around Stewart
Island, New Zealand, simulating the effects of imposing a network
of no-take areas. More recently, she has focused on applying theoretical
bioeconomic models to capture the interdependency of renewable and
non-renewable resources, as well as broadening her research into
policy consideration regarding the effects of spatial closure on
New Zealand’s quota system, applying the Total Economic Value
(TEV) approach to one of Norway’s most pristine ecosystems
and investigating the wage elasticity of paua divers empirically.
She is currently teaching intermediate microeconomics and fourth
year natural resource economics.
