Sarah Baird received a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2007. She joined the University of Otago as a Senior Lecturer in both the Department of Economics and the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine in 2013. Prior to this she was an Assistant Professor of Global Health and Economics at George Washington University from 2009-2013, and spent 2007-2008 as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at the University of California, San Diego. Sarah is a development economist whose work largely focuses on analyzing health and education issues in developing countries through careful program design and evaluation. She has worked on areas as diverse as the schooling and health of young women in Malawi, community-driven development in Tanzania, deworming in Kenya, and global infant mortality.
