Master of Commerce (MCom)
The Master of Commerce is a 1 year programme, involving the completion of a thesis prepared under supervision.
The MCom degree allows for the development of individual research, giving students the opportunity to contribute to existing fields or to begin to develop new areas of research.
Programme Structure
Students who have a good honours degree or a PGDipCom (or equivalent qualification) can complete an MCom by thesis only (minimum one year).
Students who have a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) must first complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce (PGDipCom) which consists of a selection of papers worth 144 points at 400-level.
The programme can also be undertaken part-time, to be completed within four years.

Admission to the programme
Applicants may be required to include particular papers in their study programme in order to ensure they are fully prepared for undertaking a thesis. This will be discussed during the application process. Students are required to complete the MCom application form and return it to the Office of the Dean on Level 3 of the Commerce Building by the date stated on the form.

Supervision
MCom students are assigned a primary supervisor and either a co-supervisor or advisor. For more information on staff expertise, see the staff profile pages on School of Business Department websites. These provide details on the research interest and experience of School of Business faculty. Students are encouraged to meet with their supervisor early in their programme to establish an understanding of the expectations of each party.

Thesis Examination
Every MCom thesis is examined by two examiners, one internal to the University, and an external examiner. An MCom may be awarded Distinction or Credit.
