In the past six years, while studying and after graduation, Jane Little has put her marketing skills to use in fashion, advertising, aviation, healthcare and accountancy. This is one Otago graduate who appreciates how an Otago degree is an investment in transferable skills.
Otago’s flexible study options allowed Jane to study both creative and analytical subjects, completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing with a minor in Design. Flexible study options led to the development of a broad range of skills and the ability to pursue an interesting and varied career path.
“The skills I learnt through my minor in design have been invaluable in my career in marketing, and I still regularly apply my design skills to the creative side of marketing.”
Jane chose to differentiate herself further by completing a Master of Business in Marketing, where she strategically selected her research topic with her future career in mind. Her exploration of how consumers make their airline selection turned out to be just the ticket in securing a marketing and communications role with Pacific Blue when she graduated.
Now working in Melbourne as a Brand Executive for CPA Australia, Jane reflects on her time at Otago. “The benefits of studying marketing at Otago have been much greater than I ever expected.
“A Marketing degree from Otago is definitely appealing to employers because of the University’s reputation and the strong work ethic that is renowned with Otago graduates. With so many New Zealanders around the world, this reputation follows you wherever you go.”
