2007 Does Space Matter?

The 19th Annual Colloquium of the Spatial Information Research Centre asked the question "Does space matter?" and therefore in what way does space affect process. This colloquium questioned how, and in what ways, space changes the response and behaviour of systems.

The two keynote speakers approached this issue from very different directions: Prof. John Hannah (Surveying School, Univ. Otago) discussed how sea-level change was considered from a spatial viewpoint, and the resulting impact this view had on measuring and discussing this concept; Prof. Pip Forer (Auckland University) asked the philisophical question as to how we would represent space if we were to begin our concepts of spatial representation again. The nature of space, place, process and geographic realities were used as a background to address these issues.
